Sexual Violence 101 and Trauma Informed Care for Birth Workers
Tuesday, April 27th 2021 • 1pm-2:30pm
This training is intended for birth workers and health professionals who work with expecting, pregnant or laboring people. This might include doulas, midwives, OB/GYNs, labor and delivery nurses, and nurse practitioners or any other providers who work with expecting, pregnant or laboring people.
The training will review the impact of sexual violence and abuse, including common triggers for pregnant and birthing individuals. The training will use trauma-informed care as a guide for providers in how to respond to and support a pregnant or birthing individual who has experienced sexual trauma. De-identified, real life examples will be used to demonstrate what practices may need to be adjusted per patient, and participants will learn how trauma-informed care can be a tool in reducing revictimization or in avoiding unintentionally causing harm to patients who are survivors.
